*Update: New Summer Hours

We have revised our summer hours of operation. We will now be closed on Sundays and Mondays. We will now be open between 4:00-11:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. For more information about the centre you can email us at info@rpyc.ca or phone 782-2297. Hope to see you soon!

Skate Park Opening Soon

Summer is here and our indoor skateboard park is almost complete. Our designers and builders have been working extremely hard to get this project finished. The few people that have seen it on the inside all agree that this place is amazing. Be sure to check the website for future updates on our grand opening celebrations!

The Rotary Paradise Youth Centre will be closed from October 30 - November 28. Community Health will be using the facility for their Massive Immunization Plan. The Skateboard Park will also be closed due to painting

With summer soon coming to a close, most of our summer activities will be ending in the next week or so. The RPYC had a great summer, but we are hoping that this fall will be even better. The Skate Park - Ollie's Place! - is said to be opening sometime in late october / early november. Throughout the school year we are also planning to host pre-teen dances every second week and adult dances once every three months. Members can also look forward to sports nights twice a week in the gym and theme nights held in the youth centre. Everyone ready for Family Fun Day??

Family Fun Day is this Saturday, August 8^th!! Everyone come out and enjoy all the fun activities and entertainment. Wrestle someone in a Sumo Suit, get stuck to the Velcro Wall, jump around in the bouncy castle, and be amazed by magician Matt Sharpe! This event is open to all ages! Hot dogs will be sold, along with soft drinks, chips, bars and candy. Please bring along a non-perishable food item in support of our local food bank. An adult dance will follow the Family Fun Day with live music by Whiskey River. You must be 19 or older to attend. Soup and chilli will be served. BYOB!!!

SUN SPLASH = This Weekend!!

Sun Splash is this weekend coming up!! Friday (July 31^st) we are hosting a Battle of the Bands to kick off the weekend. This event will be held in the RPYCC Gym and is open to anyone 13 years and older. Admission is $5.00. On the following Saturday and Sunday, the staff of the youth centre will be down at the soccer field selling CANDY-KABOBS!! Yummm. Don’t forget to drop by our booth to get your sugar fix for the day. We are also selling Glow Sticks and other regular canteen products. The youth centre hours may be changed during Sun Splash weekend depending on the weather. Hey Bloggers,

The RPYC Skate Park is looking awesome!! The Painters are doing a great job. They informed me that all the graffiti on the walls should be finished in about 3 weeks. On another note, all you pre-teens come and take part in our Summer Pre-Teen Dance on Thursday, July 23rd from 7:30pm - 10:00pm. The next big event coming up after that is our Battle of the Bands, which will be held on Friday, July 31^stin the gym. This event will kick off Sun Splash! All ages are welcome. Something else to look forward to is our Family Fun Day scheduled for August 8^th. This event will also be opened to all ages. So far we have sumo suits, a Velcro wall, a cotton candy machine and lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy! So don’t forget to keep checking the site to be updated on all the latest news!

Skateboard Park Update!

The graffiti artists have started their masterpiece on the skateboard park walls, which means the time is getting nearer for the skate park to officially open! For those who used to play sports in that area, don’t fret. Starting July 2^nd, every Monday and Thursday we have the RPYCC gym booked from 7-11. So grab all your friends and come down and play whatever sport games you want. And remember, it’s Canada Day this Wednesday so come and enjoy the festivities that are being held here at the community centre.

Summer Employment

Youth Center Coordinators

The Rotary Paradise Youth Centre (RPYC) located in Paradise is looking for students to fill the positions of Youth Centre Coordinator. The coordinators main role is to assist in the planning, implementation and supervision of youth centre activities for the members of the Rotary Paradise Youth Centre.

Requirements

Applicant must be attending either a High School or Secondary Education Institution. Education, training, and/or experience in a youth related field that demonstrates a working knowledge of supervisory and managerial methods and skills will be an asset. Applicants should possess an empathic understanding of the way the Youth Centre operates, what the Youth Centre means to the young people and the Board of Directors and how it can meet the needs and demands of the local community.

A First Aid certificate would be an asset; a certificate of conduct from a recognized authority would be required.

Please e-mail resumes with references to info@rpyc.ca. If you have already applied and have been interviewed then it isn't necessary to re-apply. Everyone contacted to date are still potential candidates. The deadline has been extended to accommodate the hiring process for additional summer positions.

Deadline for submissions is 12:00pm NT, Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Summer is here!! And we have got tons of events and activities for you to come and enjoy. The big thing this week is the NEON PARTY TEEN DANCE!! All you highschoolers come out and shake your groove thangg! (wow did I just say that?) If your not a dancer you might be interested in song writing, film making, or even hula hooping and tye dying. If so, come check out our July Summer Workshops! Sports nights, movie nights, battle of the bands and a wake-a-thon are all more things to look farward to this summer at the centre. So keep checking back for more updates and we hope to see you soon!!

Skatepark is underway

The skateboard park is underway and now we need your help. We are having a contest to see who can come up with a name for the park. For more information check out our Facebook group or to submit an entry for the competition, e-mail our Youth Coordinators: Allan at abearns@gmail.com or Michelle at m-mullaley@hotmail.com. As well, the graffiti artists have started planning the design for the skateboard park walls. They have come up with the idea to paint a mural on the history of skateboarding through the decades. Keep in touch to be further updated on the soon to be Indoor Skateboard Park. We are also playing around with a few ideas on free walls to paint on in which once a month we’ll paint them white so you guys can start all over again with the creativity. Another idea was having graffiti jams where youth would paint large sheets of wood with your own ideas and we’d mount them on parts of the skate board part walls. Look out for new things to happen in the next few months at the youth centre.

Welcome to our new website! 2009 is proving to be a very productive year for the Youth Centre as we continue to get traction in developing programs, offering events and building new infrastructure! This website is another "cog in our wheel" as it joins the Pepsi Internet Cafe as recent accomplishments by our volunteers. Stay tuned for an official launch and keep coming back for news updates!
